I believe when the hospital induce labour they commonly use a gel on the cervix which contains 'prostiglandins' - these 'prostiglandins' are found in semen.

Which is why sex is said to start off labour,(bear in mind the following advice is only for those REALLY desperate!!) i read somewhere whilst P with my 3rd baby that these 'prostiglandins' are even more effective when ingested through the stomach (yuk i know!).

Probably written by a man!

Anyway,i have to say i WAS desperate after 2 previously late babies & thought it worth a try so within a couple of hours & the day before i was due my 3rd baby arrived!

I dont know if it worked or if it was just coincidence (funny how my husband has no doubts about this though!).
But i do think that as your body prepares for labour with changing hormones etc, days before labour begins or most women even know anything about it.All you can do is bring it on quicker if labour is already imminent & your body is ready anyway.

Lots of luck :-)

Lots of sex, apparently there is a chemical in the sperm that if you are near your due date will enduce labour. CASTOR OIL will work a treat, if you cant take it straight, mix it with orange juice, then after you have drunk it, do a 10 mile hike up and down hills or even run up and down your stairs for an hour or so, or get your favorite CD on and get jiggy with it. You WILL have the baby!

My daughter was due Dec. 26th and I had her on Dec. 8th. Have plenty of sex. Try as many positions as you can. Being in doggie style and throwing in back hard helped me start contracting. Hot baths with a bottle of white vinegar in the water will help thin out the mucous. I have 4 kids and I started my labor myself each time. I help my family and friends get labor started when they're ready...

Good Luck!!!

Go for long walks (or at least for as long as you can!!). When I was in labour my contractions died away so the midwife told me to take a walk to the cafe, which normally is only a 10 minute walk, it took me 40 mins to get back because the contractions came thick and fast.

Well I've been told by my dr that nipple stimulation and intercourse are the most 2 effective ways. Walking also seems to help.

Castor oil, spicy foods are not very effective according to stats.

My second child was actually due on christmas day and neither of them worked for me. Luckly she was 4 days late! I really didn't want her to have her birthday on Christmas! Good Luck and Congrats!

Go for walks. Spicy food. Sit on your dryer while its on. Have sex. I have no idea if any of these work. You could also schedule a cesarean for early, though I don't recommend this. Talk to your doc about induction if you are really committed to having the baby before X-mas.

Baby won't come until baby is ready.

But you can encourage things along; keep upright, walk plenty, play with your nipples (honestly), have sex making sure that you both orgasm (his semen contains hormones that may help, and your orgasm contracts all the right muscles). I would avoid the hot curry, as the idea is to stimulate the bowel, with the knock on effect of stimulating contractions. Its the same idea as an enema...

Best of luck!

Walking, sex til orgasm... There's lots of things. They say spicy foods will do it. I was 3 cm dilated with my last and they sent me to go walking, so we went grocery shopping and walked down all the aisles. But the baby didn't come until like 2 days later, so it doesn't always work. I hope it works out the way you want it to.

I feel your pain, I'm due Dec 20.

Start walking, having sex, eating spicy food, squatting on a birthing ball (or holding on to something).
