Five years ago, I was found to have 2 small gallstones with a diagnostic ultrasound. At that time, GI doc advised NOT getting the gall bladder out. Recently, I've been experiencing midsection gas and pain (not RUQ as is typical of gall bladder attacks) overnight. Taking Tums seems to alleviate the pain. Am I correct in assuming that if this pain were being caused by my gall bladder that antacids would NOT help?

Yes you are correct. What you may not be aware of though is that untreated indigestion can lead to serious complications in your esophagus. Be sure to take tums or other antacid whenever you have the symptoms, and make sure you tell your doctor. You might need stronger medication. Elevating the head of your bed six to eight inches should help and eating smaller more frequent meals helps also. Good luck

I know when my gall bladder was at its worst just before I had my surgery to remove it NOTHING helped, I practically lived on dry toast and water. Ugh.

Just to be safe though, I would still check with your doctor. The upswing in the gas pain could still be an indicator it's getting inflamed again. Maybe. It is better to be safe than sorry, that pain could be caused by something else too and if taking TUMS only just alleviates the pain but it keeps coming back it's a good idea to find out what's causing it in the first place.

Take care and feel better soon! I truly feel your pain. ;-)
