I have an iBook G4, OSX 10.4.8 and the latest version of iTunes. My iPod can hold so many songs and my library was getting huge and using up alot of memory. So, I had to move my library to a cd-rom (many, actually) to free up the space. Now my library contains none of the songs that are already on my iPod. I have since purchased new songs and would like to put them onto on my iPod, but I am afraid that when I connect it to my mac for updating, I'll come away with only the new songs and lose the 1,000 or so songs I have. Is there a way to add the new songs without losing the old ones? What do I do? Thank you so much for your help and I really appreciate it! All the best!

I can't access my iPod preferences until I plug it into my laptop. Since I'm 99.9% sure it's set to automatic update, how can I stop the update from happening before I can change it to "manual"? Thank you SO much! I *REALLY* don't want to lose all these songs! ThankyouThankyouThankyou!

Try plugging it into another computer with itunes (but it would have to be another mac) and then say no if it asks you to update from that computers library, then go to the settings and choose manual update. If not you could try putting your ipod into disk use by rebooting it (menu + center for 6 seconds) and hold play and center while it is rebooting in disk mode. Then connect it to the computer, click the little black cross in the bar in itunes that says updating ipod etc. to stop the update, go to finder, open up your ipod as a disk, enable hidden files, open finder, type defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE and then KillAll Finder, open ipod control, copy the hidden folder of your ipod, allow itunes to keep the library orgsanised, drag the songs back in from the individual folders within iPod Control so you have your music backed up and then connect the ipod again so it dosn't loose the old music as it has been taken back of the ipod and put back onto the mac. If you can't make any sense of what i just said go to http://www.cnet.com/4520-7899_1-6488385-1.html cause it has a full guide of how to do it

Maybe you can change the setting on your itunes to not automatically update your ipod when connected, and manually update it??

certain, you'll loose all of your music the subsequent time you sync. you isn't able to operate any new songs on your ipod devoid of syncing. attempt disc clean up equipment. Open "my pc" and top-click on the "C: pressure". you are able to clean up a great number of junk instantly and then defrag your pressure at the same time as your in there.
