I heat with a woodstove and electric baseboard heaters. I am thinking of putting in a furnace and with the price of oil and gas i might just get an electric F.A,the price is lower because there are no exaust pipes to put in to vent, there are no fumes to worry about, and the furnace itself is cheaper.I'm just wondering about operating costs. It gets very cold in the winter where i live.

They work very well. My house is entirely electric. My electric bills averages about $230 a month. I live in Texas, so it does not get real cold here. I keep the thermostat on 72 in the winter and 79 in the summer.

Electric is cheaper per BTU. There are several things you can have done also. Have an outddor T'stat installed to disable 1/2 heat strips down to 30degrees. Install a heat pump. Stay away from from cheap contractor special units.
