Well...I have a 16 year old that went through that and believe it or not in her case it was a phase!!! Its crazy but when kids are growing up there is so much peer pressure that they (some) even follow in cutting just to see what its like or because they want to be able to relate or their friends think that they relate to there pain!!! I would definitely keep it an open subject and continue to talk about it until I got a straight answer from her!!! What? Why? When? we are parents and that's our job!! after you know what exactly is going on then you can better handle the problem if there even is one!!!! hopefully it is just a phase or something one of her friends is actually going through and not her!!! good luck its tough being a parent but we all make it though our parents did and we are not all that bad and so will we!

Poke marks? How old is she? WHere are these poke marks, on the inside of her arm? If so those could be TRACK marks, meaning she could be shooting up (could be a long shot)..I was a cutter when I was a teen, and the best thing that happened to me was being found out and my family intervened. I am happy and healthy 13 years and counting.....Cutters can be very sneaky..I cut in areas that others couldnt see, like upper arms and thigh....

well, if she's getting marks that look serious, like they might've been bleeding at sometime, you should sit down and talk to her.
Tell her that people care about her and that trying to fit in shouldn't mean hurting herself, emotionally and physically. And if she does have any serious mark on her, confront her and try to get the truth out of her,.
i don't think she would cut herself if she's never been depressed, normally cutting means a erson feels numb, emotionless and wants to feel something, even if it's pain. you daughter sounds like she's happy and has no reason to want that, even if her friends are telling her it's cool.

cutting is a problem. it usually stems from depression or anxiety but can become and addiction. for some the sensation is like a runners high just it becomes something they crave like a cigarette.
my suggestion is have a talk but don't bust her canolis about it mom just try to get down to what might really be wrong. don't let the cutting thing go far because it can become a serious problem.
look at the linked Q?

Just keep an eye out. Don't press the issue but if she looks like she's having a hard time, try to talk to her about it. People cut because it gives them an outlet for the pain that they feel on the inside. If she is having troubles with her emotional/social life, just help her get some of that out there by talking to her.

she could be depressed and you not even know it...
But! she might just have been poking herself...i do it with my pen when doing my homework because im so bored and sometimes it leaves little blue marks...hmm
Just keep watching her and if you see anything that looks like cuts, confront her and talk to her about it

people who cut there self are not necessarily trying to kill themselves..... they just dont know how to express themselves.... so take her out and spend more time! BUT dont force it on her just try to make it fun and she will come around.... and when she confides in you dont go off the handle or judge her... just listen.... she will tell u more and just give your opinion dont force it..... She will respect you more..... trust me on this... been threw it..... poking can lead to cutting but not always she just needs her letting her emotions out.... this is a hard age....and whatever happens dont tell anyone her buisness.... sometimes this means even the dad... remember this is GIRL stuff..... she needs you now.... so make sure to be there... GOOD LUCK
