do you have enough system Memory to go around?
As in, what Operaing system do you have, and what amount of RAM do you have
If you have Windows XP, and only have 256 MB of system RAM, yeah youre going to lag
Have you tried a disk cleanup?
Start --> Programs -- Acessories --> System Tools --> Disk Cleanup
That will delete your temp files, maybe you just have too much of that. Perhpas you have too many programs running at once or loading on startup.
But let us know what O.S. you have and how much system RAM you have

Your computer may not have enought memory to contract when an internet page is open. You can buy a big memeory for oyur computer at the Local Computer Stores. Your computer also may have a virus. You should scan your computer for a virus. Be very careful when doing so because so virus scanners are in fact harmful rather than helpful.

Your computer can be looking for updates on things like your anti-virus and windows updates. That will cause a slow down on your system. There may be other programs with "call home" routines whether they are legitimate or spyware.

-spyware (from certain internet sites that have your personal info)
-counterfeit software
-need of new drive
i'm not an expert but those are a few possible reasons

Run a spy checker program, you might have a few spyware programs running. Also, change you network setting for cable to run faster.
