The simplest way to look at it is everyone wants to be free, but an individual cannot be free without impinging on others freedom. So in a sense you have to work yourself into a position of power to obtain the right to impinge on others freedom. This is why all men can be created equal. But we all must join organizations so that we can fight to remain equal or a better way of seeing it; we are fighting to become more equal than the other guy... (who ever is trying to impinge on your freedom) So to be happy we must maintain this illusion of freedom and organizations help us do that.

Without some form of societal organization how happy could we be? Man has never fought to be free of organization, we are too much a social creature that, almost all of us need to feel like we are part of something bigger than ourselves. The Internet is most powerful organizing tool in History, yet you, yourself, used it to ask your question. Yes, we are all part of organizations, our city, our state, our country, our jobs, even the public library and Internet, for that matter a family is an organization. Without which of those do you think society would be better off?

Man wants also to be accepted and have people around him with the same likes/dislikes. Joining an organization gives him that but doesn't usually take away any freedoms.

Humans are social animals. Wolves form packs, lions have prides. Monkeys live together in large extended families. The first humans formed tribes or whatever you want to call them. We're just more sophisticated now and instead of being pushed into groups by necessity we choose to organize ourselves according to our common interests.

Man is naturally scared of being alone, therefore he joins different groups. The idea of a utopian society with no separate groups goes against human nature.

Because most men need guidance and can't think for themselves. Freethinkers and freesouls don't need organizations, shun them even, I know I do!
