...the Medicis are gone?

Or do they simply starve?

After all, a hundred years from now when their paintings sell for millions no one will really care if the artist was well-nourished or pathetically lean.

It is all about recognition and representation. You have to attract the attention of dealers and the art buying community. A good first step is to enter juried competitions. Go to www.juriedartservices.com and enter some competitions. Find a high profile charity auction and donate a work. Go to galleries and stick a picture of your work in the owners hand. Spend as much time getting your work seen as you do making it. The ones who succeed worked their asses off. You only need two of the following three things to make it: Talent, Luck & Hard Work.

Three years ago one of my bands, NOYZ AVE. held a contest for " STARVING ARTISTS " to create an album cover for the band. The entry fee was for free although, outside patrons had to pay to see all the displayed artwork and hear them perform ! The artist who came up with the idea ( didn't win ) made a pretty penny selling ALL his works. The band settled on a unusual photo and the photographer got serious recognition ( and a lot of bucks from the band's signatures on many posters he created ) Everyone made serious money ~ including the band !

There are other avenues to take art nowadays, and no one has to starve if they are willing to work at it and have the talent. Licensing is one road to take.
