siobhans an irish name its my friends name. lots of people pronounce it wrong especially americans.no offence if ur american. its pronounced shiv-awn. trust me. nd its a beautiful name means bright. saoirse is another irish name means freedom.

But I knew a girl from school that got really annoyed when it was pronounced like this because she said it wasn't being said properly, she pronounced it like this:
shiv - on
I think its a lovely & original name, everyone used to shorten it to Shiv which I wasn't sure about but in general its a lovely name.

It's Irish and it's definitely pronounced SHIV-awwn. Don't call your little girl Siobahn. My mother had a friend (mid 40s) called Siobahn who was known for getting plastered at parties and getting up onto garden furniture to sing 'Like A Virgin'... it was her party song. I still can't look a Siobahn in the face today without seeing golden boob-cones...
