Although there is a form of registration to be a Tour Guide in Egypt there are no schools that specialise in teaching/training you to be one.
I work a few times a Year as an English speaking guide, but I live in Australia.
To be a guide you have to have a very good knowledge of Egypt. Pharonic,Roman,Byzantine,Arab, Ottoman,Khedeval,British,The Monarchy and Republic eras.A University level Egyptology coarse(4yrs)will get you almost there.
You must be able to understand and speak Arabic, and the boundaries of modern culture. As well as great people skills, communication and endless Patience.
For this you will earn about as much as being a waiter /waitress back home. You have to do it for the love of Egypt and its history and people.
If you are wondering why on earth would anyone do it for so little. That is what Tour Guides get paid, most Egyptian guides are University educated many with business degrees as well.
In my case my Egyptian fiance is in the tourist business owning up market hotels. So its a great way I can contribute to the business and pay for my own fare from Oz to Egypt. When I move over I shall do more tours that will be my business,I like my Independence.

I think there is nothing but the colleges. And all colleges are public"sponsored by the government".Most like it , they don't know how to deal with a foreigner who wants to enroll.
My advice to you is to study Egyptology in the country where you live. It will teach u the same things u need to become a tour guide.
Anyway, here is the address of the local Tourism school, they call them "Tourism and Hotels Colleges" if that may help u in searching online:
Tourism and Hotels College,
El gamaa el adeema , it means "the old campus"
Ismailia ,
Egypt.
You might wanna address the letter to the Students' affairs. This is an easy address.
Give it a try.

It's my understanding that any guided tour in Egypt must include an egyptologist approved by the government. This, I think, requires a college degree. There are others who manage travel arrangements, but don't know their requirements.

you're asking the question in a incorrect way. human beings dont pass flashing asserting "hi , i'm trustworthy." ..or "properly ,X tourism employer is trustworthy." there are a number of companies over the international who does Egypt excursions. You cant call all of it , and additionally you cant advise all of them. attempt sticking with the Tourism boards , Your close acquaintances, and your neighbourhood. verify out what they used, Wether they enjoyed it or no longer , and What they personaly advise. all of it starts first with :What excursion you go with to get. could see : Pyramids,Luxor and aswan, previous coptic Cairo , A summer season sea coast hotel (of direction in summer season) , St. Catherine off roading + Dahab sea coast hotel excursion. and a great style of alternative stuff. and additionally you cant integrate all of them into One WEEK. You propably choose a Month to work out all of it. for my section i choose to advise procuring a vacationer handbook e book approximately Egypt, and notice what you go with to pass to, Then seek for an employer.
