I have thought long and hard about this and I think what she has done is completely wrong. I think this whole episode has been nothing less than a publicity stunt for Madonna, nobody else.

I think it is unethical to rip a child out of its culture and impose a Western culture on it simply because you have the financial means to do so. It's not as if the child is an orphan, it has a father.

I would have had far more respect for Madonna if she had used her personal fortune to set up an Aid Foundation to improve the lives of all the children in Malawi but allow them to remain within their own culture, and then campaigned to get all her rich celebrity friends to contribute to it. That would have been a lot less self-serving than the path she has chosen to follow.

There is no reason why she should not be allowed to keep the baby, if she can provide him with a good home and a better environment to grow up in than he would have had in Malawi.

If she was not allowed to keep the child, then to whom would he go? Back to the orphanage to await another foster parent?

Yes, if she moves there and learns the customs of Malawi, as every other prospective parent who wishes to adopt there is required to do. It's admirable that she wants to parent him, and likely he'd have a good life with her. But she must follow the laws of Malawi. There's no reason why she shouldn't be required to relocate there for the required 18 months - she certainly has the means to relocate there temporarily.

Yes - every little bit helps.
If she can rescue one orphan from Africa and give it a comfortable home - that is a good thing in my book. I just hope that the little brat doesn't disappoint her.
