Who do you have in mind for them to fight? And don't you think the real Irish army might object.

Golly.
I think Collins was an important Irish hero but the Irish murdered him - Collins got independence for the South (now called the Republic of Ireland)
The IRA of more recent times killed too many innocent people & robbed too many banks. Many of their former members are free & wealthy and the organisation is supposedly operating within the ongoing peace process. Ireland is fairly prosperous, especially the south.
What would you have the IRA do now?

The IRA are internationally recognised as thugs, bankrobbers , kneecappers and extortionists.
They are formed from the ranks of the unemployed.
They are recruited from bars.
most have them have little or no eductaion and dont fully understand the nature of the conflict, but are easily manipulated by the leaders who sell them an image of being a soldier with a noble objective.
Planting bombs in shops, public houses and parades packed with innocents doesnt make one a soldier.
The ppl of northern ireland want to be british its a simple concept.
The IRA have never won anything that the british didnt surrender under pathetic weak government.
Mrs thatcher showed the IRA for what it really is,criminals

You dont have to worry any more now,Tony blair has shown that the IRA can indeed bomb its way to the negotiating table.A slap in the face for every british soldier and civilian ever murdered by the IRA.

The IRA persuaded a gullible and ineffective Mo Mowlam into surrender. Blair has no regard for the rule of law in Northern Ireland so anything is possible.

No. They should follow the example of the Umkonto we Sizwe (the armed wing of the African National Congress in South Africa) and disarm and disband now that they have achieved nearly all of their political objectives.

Accepting that they still want a united-Ireland, if they are serious about accepting demcocracy (Sinn Fein) then they must accept that, at this time, a majority of people in Northern Ireland do not want a united-Ireland, and Sinn Fein, and its supporters in the IRA, must accept this and use democratic means to change people's minds.

Maybe if it still had the values of the original Irish Republican Brotherhood as they were originally formed. Now both sides of the fight use the politics as an excuse for drug dealing, violence and intimidation.
There are very few REAL Republicans or Unionist left.

The IRA killed children. Are you that twisted that you believe murdering children of any nationality for any cause is acceptable? If so, that's vile.
