First, complete all the quests in Northshire Abbey - it's the safest area to get your feet wet while earnign XP. Stuff outside of there is generally aggressive, so the Abbey is a bit of a safe haven.
First rule is, pick up everything, and sell off what you don't use. Money is very important, so you'll want to do this as often as possible. Your first purchase should be some extra bags. Trust me, they'll come in handy later.
Snag quests as often as possible. Killing monsters gives good XP - but once you lose your rest bonus, quest XP is the best bang for the buck. If you run into a quest that's too hard - skip it until later. There's plenty of quests out there, missing one isn't too bad.
Ice magics will be your friend - they'll slow the enemy, so as long as you stay mobile, you can stay out of trouble. Learn first aid so you've got bandages, and try to collect some healing and mana potions.
Don't be afraid to group up - sometimes, having someone else can be all that's needed to roll through several quests.
Above all else - have fun, and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Some of the funniest moments I've had in game involved the word "Oops." :)

Human's aren't the best choice for Alliance mages but I would recommend speccing frost when you reach lvl 10.
Once you get the Blizzard spell learn to blizz kite melee mobs. A frost mage can take on 5+ mobs at a time this way and the XP and loot come quickly.

I got lucky when I first started because my brother's friends had their own guild. Joining a guild was a great resource where I could play with people I knew and avoided the snotty kids who mouth off over simple questions.
Not all guilds are created equal, but talk to people, check out the guild forums and try to find one that you feel comfortable with.
The best way to learn how to play any character is to experiment. In my opinion, you should try out a couple different characters through Level 10 (the first 10 levels level up fairly quickly) and then pick your favorite to level to 60. Every one has a different playing style.
Also, many answers for where to find stuff and how to train stuff can be found at http://www.thottbot.com/ - just make sure you type the address correctly because it's a site that spammers like to mimick.

killing stuff gets you XP faster than running forever to do quests. however, if you kill stuff on the way to completing quests, that seems to be the optimal leveling practice. I've never played alliance, though, so I can't help you with where to go. Also, when you get Arcane Explosion, you can probably get more XP by fighting 2 or 3 mobs that are a couple of levels below you than by fighting one that is your level or above in the same amount of time and while using the same amount of mana. good luck

The alliance is overcrowded and filled with players ranging from age 9-15. You should join the horde, much more mature players and players willing you help you out. I'll help, I'm on one of the new servers, Korialstrasz. Name's Zeenja, class Shaman, level 13.

just check out the WOW website. There's a lot of good advice in there. What server are you on? The sfastest way to elvel is to gather as many quests as you can, and jus tkeep trying to knock em out while picking a new one up.

Yea.. Delete the human. And start horde. Trust me. Most servers, all the alliance are immature and suck.. But if you are intent on keeping the human.
Hit level 12, its very easy. Then go to westfall and quest with groups... Other then that just have fun..

i just sent this to your previous question, i guess you didnt see it, here it goes again for ya, good luck
Ok Mages:,i'd recomend that you specify as fire, when you reach level 10 they will start to give you 1 point every level you gain, those points you can use to specify your class, for mages there is Fire, Frost and Arcane, why fire??? cuz its better for leveling, you kill faster meaning you gain XP faster. Try to complete as many quests as you can, for mages one tip could be, start every battle with a frost bolt, in order to slow your target then attack him with fire, theres a chance you kill the monster without even receiving a single hit, cuz the slow effect will give you time to burn him down as he walks towards you. As i told you before, kill kill and kill, even if they ask you for 10 monster killing, try to kill 15, more XP, more practice, and sometimes more money.
MONEY tip: Loot everything, even if its crap, loot it, almost every single item you dont need you can sell it to a vendor for little money, it may be just a lil bit of money but if you put together a nice amont of items u can get money for your trainings and repairs. For green, blue, purple items (dont worry about purple yet) if you can use em and are better than what u have, use them. if not, there is always the good Auction House to sell them.
GROUPS:
Dont unleash all your power as the battle starts, wait until your warrior or another melee class to attack first, then you attack, believe me, you dont want to be the monsters first target with mages, mages are weak for melee but powerfull in ranged attack,, on groups just try to be away from the monsters, when you are alone you dont have much of a choice, but to try to burn your opponent before he kills you.
EXTRA TIPS:
Train First Aid to help you on your questing, i dont know where to train alliance characters cuz im all Horde but im sure you will find the place. There are stats on your character, check with the key 'C': Strenght, Agility, Stamina, Intellect, Spirit, Armor, for mages go for Intellect and stamina, with a 3rd choice for Spirit, Intellect will increase your mana and increase your chance to land a critical hit on the monsters, stamina will give you more life, and spirit will increase the speed at which your health and mana regenerate
PROFESSIONS:
There are some professions available on the game the 2 more suitable for mages are Tailoring and Enchanting, tailoring makes your clothes, enchanting gives you the ability to disenchant every item you dont need anymore (greens, blues, purples) turning them into dusts or crystals which you can sell or use for your own enchantments.
well now im tired of writing, i hope i helped you right there.
regards
