You've got a couple of different options.

First, do both computers have wireless (802.11 b or g wifi) capability? If so, get a wireless router and hook it to the broadband modem, then connect each computer wirelessly.

If you don't already have wireless built in to the computers, you can add wireless wifi cards to each computer pretty cheaply, for under $40 each.

If you don't want to do that, you can run an ethernet cable through the walls, or along the baseboard and under the carpet to connect each computer to the modem. You may need a router to connect to the modem though.

Wireless really is the way to go though. Make sure to activate the security settings on the wireless router and use WPA encryption, not WEP encryption. WEP is a faulty method that has been badly broken.

Yes you will need broadband though. You can also look at getting a router, this will save putting wires to all the concerned rooms.

I saw an answer involving wireless, but a router with each cabled together works just as well, if you're computers are not wifi compatible.

yes you set up a LAN or local area network this can be hard wired or wire free, you can do it on dial up but it will be incredibly slow, much better if your on broadband

I can't believe you'd let him have one in his room. You need to have it in a place where you can monitor his usage if he is under 18!
