If you opened it, you played it & you may have scratched it. Why do I want to buy something you bought only to record & get for free, & probably scratched in the process??

When you play a CD for the first time it does make some lovely co-ordinated noise, otherwise known as music.
What difference does it make if you've listened to the CD? Depends on what you've told the customer service attendant, Yes means they'll not be quite willing, and may not take it back. No means you get to choose between a refund and an exchange.

A lot of retailers will not allow you to return a CD if it is not still in it's cellophane wrapping.

With the growing availability of MP3 players and music ripping software some people abuse shops by getting the CD, copying it and returning it for a refund a day or so later.

Physically nothing changes with the CD, its just the shop protecting its profits.

Their question should be whether you opened it. They don't care about the cd, they just don't want you to rip it in to your iPod and return it.

nothin happens to it, its just the fact that you've already open it and they can't take it back to resell it b/c it has already been open
