My sister-in-law returns presents that my husband and I buy her. She will keep some but I hate the fact that she expects us to be her personal shopper and get it right all the time. I hate even more the fact she shows us with the gifts that need returning months later, so we cannot even return them. Am I over-reacting? I have just bought her Xmas present and am seriously thinking of putting the receipt in the bag. What do you think?

How she reacts to gifts is a very rude way. Did her mother raise her to be like that? I hope not! It's the thought that counts. I think you should put the gift receipt in the bag, and if she doesn't take the gift, say "No, you keep it". Good luck with the snobby sister in law!

You should never put the receipt in the bag, it seems to me your sister in law is purposly acting this way. I mean come on, if shes told you the kind of things she likes and youve tried to shop for her the best you can, and she refuses to aknowledge this or even pretend she is happy. The woman does not deserve a present, so dont give her one. Tell her there is no point in giving her anything considering she is never happy with what she gets. Its not your job to give her a gift, so I would not even recommend a gift certificate at this point either.

Get a gift receipt and put it in the bag. Even if it has the price, include it an envelope with the gift. Let it be her problem and her choice, so you don't have to hear about it again. Showing it to you months later is just plain evil.

Most stores will give you a gift receipt if you ask. Go ahead and put it in there with the gift. That way if she wants something different she can get it for herself. If she wants to return your presents, that's fine, but it's her problem, not yours. Don't worry about it. Everyone returns gifts.

No, you are not over reacting. You are hurt. Because the time and spirit behind your gift is not being appreciated. At the same time you can not neglect your duties too. so like a responsible relative give gift in the form of a gift-card from your nearest store and expect no courtesy in return. Thats it.

I think I would start buying her gift cards or giving her money. That is ridiculous.

do not tell the guy who gave it to you in the starting up - in simple terms move to the shop that it became bought at and say that you've been given it as a birthday recent or perhaps although that you experience to blame, you ought to favor to interchange it. in the experience that they don't enable this, THEN move to the guy who gave it to you to get a reciept from them or in spite of the indisputable fact that that's you may want. in simple terms tell them you do not rather want something for tanning because you do not tan, and ask them in the experience that they could experience good about you swapping it for something you want extra !
