I went to management and told them to look at my payment history, having never been late on rent payment, that I was in the midst of job change, and that an increase in rent would force me to look at alternatives, which I prefered not to do. That I would likely remain a tenant for several more years. That did the job as they held the rent for another year. They dont want to loose a tenant and take a chance on a new one that might be a deadbeat......so bottom line is , if you are a good tennant, you might have a shot at that approach. If not....oh well -
