They need another left handed bat and another left handed pitcher to replace Jamie Walker.
They will have to stay healthy.
Mags and Pudge and Guillen all have had injuries in the last few years. If they stay healthy, and Sheffield stays healthy I look forward to them defending their AL Title.
Verlander had a great rookie season, but he pitched more innings than he ever has. I am hoping he doesnt fall to a tired arm or the "sophmore jinx".
Bonderman will only get better.
So I think the pitching is fine.
Should be an interesting 2007.

The only thing they can do to improve is win the World Series...which is highly unlikely. Teams have NOT been repeating trips to the dance lately. And I don't think for a second that Detroit will be sneaking up on anyone this year. Look for Chicago and the Twins to bounce back strongly. Indians -even though not a major threat unless they get a bullpen-could make some problems for Detroit-they certainly have the talent-fact is they won 93 games just in 2005-so don't count them out. Then factor in the facts: Did alot of these Detroit players have career years? Will they be as strong? Is Pudge going to stay healthy? Will the pitching remain constant, or healthy? Injuries play a huge factor in a season...lose your ace and you can usually kiss the season goodbye. Pudge is the 3rd best catcher in the Central-no longer the top of the mountain. Will Sheffield cause issues? Who will be the surprise team this year? Detroit can't look ahead...any team can surpass them. Did you seriously think Detroit would be as strong as they were last year? NOBODY will overlook them now---they too better not overlook anybody.

They've already improved the team with addition of Sheffield. having Casey all year long will help. I would like to see another veteran lefty for the pen and a veteran "swing" pitcher who can spot start in case of injuries, be a long reliever, be the #4 or 5 should some one falter and pick up the odd start here and there to take the load of the young guys & Kenny Rogers. If Mike Maroth can return at full strength that will help a lot.

Keep the pitching staff healthy. They signed Casey back at first. Ordonez, Polanco, Inge, Thames, Granderson, Guillen, Pudge, and Monroe are all returning and Sheffield should help out too, my guess is they will have to trade a significantly decent player to make room in the outfield. 5 decent guys to fill 3 spots is tough. They should be alright as long as the pitching stays healthy!

Not too much considering that they're the AL Champions. If they keep their pitching intact thay stand as good of a chance of making the playoffs. Just remember anything can happen in a short series, just ask the Yankees. with the addition of Gary Sheffield they now have a DH with some pop. Anything can happen.

i would say that they need to work on the fundamentals of the game particularly with the pithcers in regards to their defense i mean if you truly payed attention to the world series you would understand what i'm saying
