Bubble Puppy is pretty obscure for a band that has made a huge influence on music. They were a psychedelic rock band from Texas in the 60's that never had a hit anywhere other than Germany. However, they were a big influence on German *****-rock, where the beat to their songs "Hot Smoke and Sassafras" and "Lonely" were used by German psychedelic bands like Neu!, Can and Kraftwerk.

The beat, which was later called the "motorik" beat by German musicians (it sounds like a car driving down the freeway), is ubiquitous in genres such as punk rock, post-punk and indie-rock. It has been used by artists as wide-ranging as David Bowie, the Sex Pistols, Throbbing Gristle, Nirvana, the Psychedelic Furs, the Pixies and even DJ Shadow (most of whom have probably never heard Bubble Puppy).

Sadly, the band is all but forgotten today despite that they were actually a very talented band.
