EDIT: I do have a Wii actually. But I don't think I can use the Virtual Console yet because I don't have wireless internet at home or a broadband router (I haven't even seen how Forecast channel or News Channel work). Plus, this game that's not working I don't think is available on Virtual Console yet (Final Fantasy III). But thanks for the input!

it is possible that the internal battery of the game doesn't work anymore. inside most RPG games, and most EA sports games, there is a battery that's about 1.5 CM in diameter. however, that should not stop the game from loading, that should only erase save data when you turn the game off.

it is also possible that the contacts are covered in crud - hence the Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol. but remember, if you clean 1 game, you need to clean the contacts that it will touch (the system) and anything else that might touch those contacts (the other games). compressed air cans for cleaning various machinations are available in most office supply stores - don't blow on your games.

i'm sure you're already aware that final fantasy III (us) is known as FFVI in japan. and that it was released for playstation along with V in a set called Final Fantasy Anthologies. it is also being re-released for the GBA in the beginning of February of 2007

none of those answers seem to match this one: SKILL!!! I'm an old head and have the system in my collection of gaming systems. I buy the old cartridges for 1.00 and NONE have escaped my skill at getting them to work.
Back in the day, the games were notorious for getting viruses from other systems. You loan a game to a friend and when u got it back, BLUE SCREEN BLUES.
The answer is not alcohol and a q-tip... this kills the game, eventually. the cure for a game that doesn't work is 1) Blow the internal heads. No spit, and side to side once or twice briskly. 2) GENTLY put the cartridge into the gaming pocket; don't force it into the pocket. These are delicate electronics, but don't treat it like a new baby either. 3)With confidence, turn on the power. This probably won't work the first 10 times, but I GUARANTEE, it will work. After a couple of tries and it's still not working, remove the cartridge and insert a working game...The contamination is still on the heads and you have to "fool" the system. Once the working cartridge comes on, power off, remove and insert non working cartridge....this will work. Also, Once the non working game is in the sys, there are a couple of things to try....1)without removing game, turn power off and on...not in rapid succession, but off and on. off and on. Remove non working and retry. Perserverance pays... or you just got a bum game, probable, but not likely. I AM the man !!! I haven't lost one game yet...

If none of the methods the others posted work, your best bet is to buy a nintendo wii. You can download snes games using their virtual store.

OR you can get a free emulator (google: emulator) and some roms (google: roms) for whatever console you are looking for games.

They are free and fairly easy to set up. Although illegal if you do not already own the game(s).

Hope that helps! ^^
