i am fairly sure it is not a planaria from its appearance, its blackish brown and can "walk" up glass, when it "sleeps" it gets short and fat and curls a little
as for my water quality, i have water hydras and i am told they will not grow unless my water is awesome
if they are harmless how do i get more? lol

If your tank is freshwater I would bet that you have an insect larva in the tank. From your description it sounds like an insect larva, but you didn't give any sizes and very little description. Without knowing for sure what it is it is hard to tell if it will be harmful. Personally I would remove it and take it to the pet store for help if you want to keep it. If you do not want to keep it I would dispose of it.

Ew, sounds like Planaria worms. These worms aren't harmful to your fish, but they do indicate that something is amiss in the tank.
Is it possible that you are overfeeding your fish? Planaria feed off excess food matter in the gravel. Try not to feed more than what your fish can eat in two minutes, and this, no more than twice a day.

To get rid of your current worms, it's time to do a thorough cleaning. Put most of your water, and your fish, into a CLEAN bucket (NOT a bucket which has ever contained any cleaning products). Thoroughul vacuum the gravel in your tank to get out any excess food, or decaying plant matter or fish waste.

Then, keep up with weekly water changes of 20-30% per week... And the worms will not return :)

Anything that looks like a worm has to be a George W Bush.

It might be a worm, tiny eel or a regular fish.
