What is the storyline of the musical "Chess"?

One of my favorite musicals!!! Havent heard it in years :(

very basic story

there is a chess match between a russian and and american during cold war time. With much in bragging rights at stake the game is politically charged.

The american has a female second who has given up everything for him. the american is great, but has a self important bad attitude, no social skills, and really cares about nothing but the game.

Florence (american second), who also loves the game tries to explain the americans bad behavior and begins to fall in love with the russian. The russian has a devoted wife (svetlana I believe) who is dedicated to him but is not devoted to the game of chess the way he is. The russian is torn between devotion to his wife and his new attraction to the firey and chess savy florence. this distracts him from the game.

This is a masterpiece by Tim Rice with enchantig bradied duets and quartets, and firey lyrics. I have owed both the amerian and british version. Both are excellent the british version is rawer with a better fight scent between the american team as I recall.

Buy the music, listen several times and you will learn to love it.
