A die has 6 sides, so any of the 6 numbers can come up with prob 1/6.

You roll two dice (the plural of die) so you have 6 times 6 possibilities. Make a grid like a multiplication table and fill in each cell the sum of numbers from each die. You'll get numbers from 2 to 12 in each of 36 cells. To find probabilities of a given number, say 7, you just count all the cells that have 7 in them and divide by 36. I play a lot of craps and know that it's 6/36 = 1/6.

This is the simple easy way to do it. As you develop more probability and statistics tools, you'll use more sophisticated methods.

It involves probability, because if you can quickly figure the probablity of rolling a certain number, you can have a competitive edge.
