I haven't had sex, but I was really close one night. My boyfriend got a little in before I stopped him, and I felt pressure and the pain started, but he didn't go farther than an inch, maybe. I couldn't see if there was any blood, and I didn't really check because I didn't think about it until recently when my best friend asked me if me and him have done anything, and I explained it. She said I'm not a virgin anymore, but I don't know. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Virginity is a very subjective definition. For example, if a woman who is not sexually active is sexually assaulted, does that mean she is no longer a virgin?

Virginity is defined differently by each person. Some lesbian women consider themselves life long virgins, some feel they lose their virginity when using a dildo with a partner, and some feel the first time they have oral sex is when they lost their virginity.

If you feel that you have not had what you define as sex, then you are still a virgin. Some people define oral sex or anal sex as sex, others don't. Some might say that any penetration is sex, where as others feel that they and their partner must climax for it to be real sex.

All in all, this is your own question to answer. Do you feel that you're still a virgin? If so, you are, and that's all that matters.

You know this a hard question to answer.

Losing your virginity is anytime there is penis penetration. If you felt anything, then you are probably not a virgin. Your hymen was touched, maybe slighty streched and your virginity is tooken away.

Blood does not always symbolize being a virgin or not.

To clarify.. penetration does mean sex.
And just because your not 18 or over does not mean your a slut. You have some serious issues poster above.

I wasn't going to be drawn on this question until I read Natalie D's answer and her reference to 'silly girl' - hardly a label you'd choose to encourage young people to ask sensible questions.
But after what you've said in your question it could be that a court of law's view on virginity for instance may be different to that of a medical view or a lay person's view and so on. So technically you may not be a virgin now, but legally you may still be one - and in general who really knows what affect tampons might have on someone whether you've had sex or not.

A virgin is someone who has never had intercourse....or when a penis hasn't penetrated a vagina. It has NOTHING to do with whether your hymen has broken or not. Some girl's hymens do not actually tear, but stretches. I would say no, you're not a virgin since he did penetrate you...even if it was only an inch.

Some may say it's a matter of opinion but thats just lying to yourself really.
Do you realise where your hymen is? It is right at the entrance regardless of that ANY penetration no matter how deep (for goodness sake why would it matter how much) then you are NOT a vigin, silly girl, you can kid on to yourself that you are still a virgin but unfortnately not.

Its a personal defenition. Personally I wouldnt consider you to be not be a virgin anymore. from him just peeking his head in he could have gotten your pregnant or gaven you an std. (not saying it happened but it is a possibility)

Be careful and put on your raincoat and discuss birth control with your mom or go to planned parenthood before anything resumes

I would say that you are still a virgin. If you haven't had actual intercourse, then you are still considered a virgin.
