An old custom prohibits the wearing of white after Labor Day. The custom is rooted in nothing more than popular fashion etiquette. In actuality, the etiquette originally stated that white shoes were the taboo while white or "winter white" clothes were acceptable. This custom is fading from popularity as it continues to be questioned and challenged, particularly by leaders in the fashion world. "Fashion magazines are jumping on this growing trend, calling people who 'dare' to wear white after Labor Day innovative, creative, and bold. Slowly but surely, white is beginning to break free from its box, and is becoming acceptable to wear whenever one pleases. This etiquette is also compared to the Canadian fashion rule of not wearing green after Remembrance day."

Why do many people choose not to wear white after Labor Day, you ask. It is one of the most well known fashion faux pas, but it is drawing less and less public appeal. Many people in the younger generations are completely passing by this style tradition and trying out their own sense of style.

I heard it has something to do with the season's changing right after Labour Day. White is meant to be a cool, summery colour. After Labour Day, when the season's change to winter and whatnot, white doesn't keep you warm as much as wearing black does. It doesn't grab the heat of the sun. I dunno. I read this in a Miss Manner's column.. LOL. Anyways, I don't think it's true at all. I mean, there's white winter boots out there, and white sweaters, it's all hogwash if you ask me.

ok so how long is after labor day? it would be the entire year and then labor day... and then it's after again. so whatever... wear white whenever you want.

Because people are stupid and care too much what others think.
I don't honestly know why, but I can tell you I'll wear white whenever, no matter how many people glare.
