Ok taken your advice, moved on and am answering your question!! I had a friend who walked funny, a lot older than me, but he always got the best girls, now women. he says now, the mickey taking was character building. He has a fantastic personality. His sense of humour is wonderful, and after just a couple of minutes chatting to him you forget he has this ailment at all. These wicked people are hard to ignore, but it's cos they don't understand. If your friend confronted them, and made fun of himself first they'd move on and like him for who he his.!! there, gave you a longer answer than you did me!!

No. But that doesn't make me special. It makes me human. Most people will refuse to tease others who walk funny on grounds of decency and compassion. However, many of those same people who take the moral high ground won't hesitate to laugh, or worse, stay silent while someone else does the abusing.

To be a champion, you should DEFEND this person. When people make fun of him, make sure they realize that it's the "farthest thing from cool" and that they should stop immediately. Go to lengths to be friends with this person and help build their confidence. Find their strengths and focus on them and eventually, the walking will be a non-issue...

I think they do that only because he walks different than others. People who are different from others turns out cool and it's sad that people miss the chance of having a great friend (good friends are hard to find) well all you could do to help is to bring his self esteem up. He really needs it especially if he has depression that's what I have and it hurts physically and emotionally. But you do recover from it if you have a good friend there helping. Well good luck!

Rock on!

NO! i wouldn make fun of him but i know exactly how he feels because i sorta do to...but just treat him like he's normal like a regular person thats what we all would want if you had the same problem, and he probly knows kids laff at him and talk about him but probly try's to act like he never even new they are doin that...and when you hang out with him sometimes like when both of yall are alone try an tell its ok to be different because every one in the WHOLE world is different ,just because they look normal that doesnt meen they are because they can also have a problems an just hide it ...and tell him that kids like, him is also scared just like him and some are just not paying any attention to those who try to hurt them and he doesnt need to either he just needs to have fun and be lucky he has a good friend like you.....i hope what i wrote makes an y since....an i hope it helps alot to any one

There's a Bloom County cartoon, where Opus is waddling as he walks, Milo and the others are just walking, and someone screams, don't waddle! why can't you walk like everyone else! ...so the others start to waddle too! Great cartoon, with a great point. Spend some time with him, let him see YOU don't think he's bad because he can't walk as well as you, let others see you think he's worth your time, and maybe they'll open up too! Maybe they'll look at his good side instead of his 'different' side!

No. I would never laugh at someone who is different in any way. Just help your friend realize that some people are ignorant, and hard as it may be at times, just ignor them.
Better yet. You can feel sorry for them. The fact that they laugh at such things is a personality defect.

I would never make fun of someone elses disabilities. People are just right down cruel and mean. Its no wonder he is depressed! You can help him, by being a friend and sticking by him. I know that he is going to appreciate that deeply. God bless you and thank you for caring enough to ask. You show alot of maturity by this.

Only if they were conceited & thought they walked cool. But I can almost guarantee you that I'd probably walk into a wall or a telephone pole or something while making fun of them. That's probably because I walk so funny. :0

It is wrong to laugh, but the real issue is your friend's depression; he has to learn to cope with the challenge--his funny walk--and accept that we can't change others, but we can change our attitude. I like "Forest Gump," maybe the movie would help your friend too.
