Last year, the Christians had to keep quiet during Christmas so not offend other religious groups. Has anyone asked which group were offended? Does it matter what religious foundations Target and Wal-Mart have, as long as they have 56" flat screens for $48 for 5am-11am the day after Thanksgiving, does it REALLY MATTER?

You have an awesome point!! It's ridiculous how you can't say Merry Christmas anymore because then you could get fired. It's just crazy. We wouldn't have this holiday if it weren't for Christ's birthday! Of course it is a MERRY CHRISTMAS! Jeez. This country was founded on Christian beliefs, why now are we going to change it? Because people are getting offended because of a lifestyle they have chosen? I think not! Get over it.

Good question!

I say "Happy Holidays," regardless of who I'm talking to.

The reason for this is that Black Friday usually starts the so-called Christmas season, and when I wish someone Happy Holidays, I include the secular New Year too.

Plus, you can't tell who celebrates what just by looking at them, so if you say Happy Holidays, you are not risking wishing someone something they don't want to be wished.

And last time I looked, Christmas is a holiday itself. And if it's okay for people to say "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year", it should cause no problem to say "Happy Holidays" because you're still speaking of more than one holiday no matter how you phrase it.

I am not offended by people celebrating Christmas. I celebrate Christmas. I am offended by people insisting that "Merry Christmas" is the *only* appropriate holiday greeting when people celebrate Hanukah and Kwanzaa and Festivus and Crimbo and whatever else there is out there to celebrate. It's not fair to ignore and disrespect their faiths any more than it is to disrespect those who celebrate Chrsitmas.

And I can tell you from personal experience that a lot of Christians were offended. They were offended that people were wishing them Happy Holidays. I got snapped at a lot and told "Merry Christmas" like they were correcting me for not having enough sense to use the "right" greeting.

I am saying "Merry Christmas". If I offend anyone, I'll say I'm sorry, and just wont say it to them again. Everyone should be able to practice their own religon (as long as it does not hurt anyone else) and that is what America is about. So for me, Merry Christmas is a good thing.

Personally, I say Merry Christmas. I have respect and love for other religions, cultures and traditions and would never find it offensive for someone to say "Merry Meet" or "Happy Hannukah" or nothing at all. But, I do also have respect for the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms in this country - and I honor them by exercising my freedom of speech and freedom of religion... by saying Merry Christmas and welcoming any other people to greet me with their choice of different cultural and traditional greetings. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa.. Season's Greetings, and all that jazz. It would be nice if everyone could just say hello.. I am wishing you peace and goodwill and joy! in whatever way their cultures have done it for thousands of years and everyone else could embrace the fact that we can all do this FREE from oppression or persecution. We are in possession of great and precious gifts that are not matched everywhere in this world. We should all be greatful to hear and see all the many varieties of cultural celebrations this season.

"Had to keep quiet?" I remember a lot of Christians making a big stink, actually. No one forces you one way or the other, although some have tried to force big stores that serve many religions.

I'm not saying Merry Christmas, but if it's you're choice, I'll wish you one.

No Christian "Had to keep quiet", and no other religious group has ever taken offense at Xmas.

The so-called War on Xmas is symptomatic of Christian radical's need to believe they are persecuted.

Since you are asking "does it REALLY MATTER", then why are CHRISTIANS constantly making such a big deal out of it? Obviously it really matters to you.

Only the christians were offended because they think christmas is the only holiday that should be recognized. I dont think anyone else gave a crap.

Everyone should be free to say what they wish around this time of year without any problems.

Let's stay with "Happy Holidays," so non-Christians can enjoy the season as well...
