Ok, so i used to be really good i'd speed up and put it in but recently i have been missing soo many layups its ridiculous. The ball tends to bounce off the rim or sometimes doesn't even hit the rim at all and i dont know what im doing wrong! It's really annoying because i might now be taken off the team when I am a really good shooter and dribbler

Does anyone have any tips for layups or like common mistakes people make?

Thanks.

First of all have you had your vision examined recently? If it's ok, then try some practice layups where you slightly change your aim deliberately by a half-inch or inch in each direction both left and right, up and down, and a few inches forward and back, then combining left, up and forward, etc., the same as when a marksman is calibrating sights on a rifle. It may be that your "kinesthetic" sense is rusty and you are not "feeling" it when your body is in total alignment to make the perfect shot. It could also be your release point (the same as when pitchers can't seem to throw strikes). Try varying that as well. I'm sure if you try hard enough something's gonna pop. Best of luck.

You may need to focus on the Box in the middle of the backboard. Also try and do some weights for upper body strength. But don't lift weights within 1-2 days of playing competitive basketball. Hope this helps.

how far are you from the hoop ?because sometimes i might make a 3 point shot and then i'll try to make a 2 point shot it mostley depends on where your most comfortable shooting the ball at or what kinds of layup you like best that helps you

sometimes when i try to make a shot and miss it depending where im at my coach will tell me to move closer to thet hoop and i don't have to shoot it far away

I have a good tip for someone who only hits 30% of their layups...
You probably need to take up tennis or golf

your foot work might be in the wrong place ask a coach about your footwork. make sure your on your right foot when you get up at least i think because that helps me and im 100 percent and you might want to aim higher on the back board oh and try to add a clock wise spin to the ball
