It should be gone, but you can request a copy of your own criminal record if you want to check.

It's a common misconception that juvenile records are "sealed." There's always a record, and I have only heard of one case where a juvenile offense didn't show up on a military background check. In this particular case, the guy pled guilty under advisement, paid his fine and did community service, and his lawyer was able to get his record expunged and even obtained the original arrest record and court documents. In this scenario you mention here I can say with 99.9% confidence that the 1984 felony will come up in the background check. Don't chance it.

A juveniles record can be permanently closed by either the parent or the child after the age of 18, just by going to the court house. You may want to contact the court house and see what action needs to be taken. Since it also went deferred, it may have left his record after 7 years. Just need to do some detective work on the phone and find out BEFORE you contact the military.

Yes there will always be a juvenile record. But it isn't supposed to effect the adult record. And I beg to differ! In some cases a juvenile record does effect your adult record. I've seen it happen before. You may want to check with the state of Texas and make sure sweety!

It will not show up in any background check
Now the physcial paperwork is sealed at the clerks office in the court where it happened, but it would require a warrant to get it

if you were a minor the by now your file has been destroyed and you will not have to much to worry about but the FBI will still have a record of it. Unless you were going to work in a job where you need a high securty clearance I wouldn't worry about it
