Connectors for both Serial ATA on laptop and Desktop are the same. What worries me is the electrical input. Is it the same for 3.5 drives as for 2.5 " drives ???

Either remove the hard drive from you laptop and place it into an external casing with a USB connector (a bit of a hassle) or just connect both machines to a your local network at home and enable file sharing without having to disassemble anything (much easier)

Like C-Man said the case is your best route, you can use it on any computer with a USB connector, they can be purchased at Best Buy and Staples, run about $35.00.

It can be used for both 2.5" or 3.5" some CD or or drives like Zip or Jaz drives with a IDE connection, some are USB and have not need of a connection to a power outlet, some area Paralell and do, find the one best for you and your situation.

you can, but you will need a special adaptor. once you have the adaptor it's really simple - but yes, it is possible.
