Sorry, I know this is the same answer as to your other question, but it applies here.
What's so terrible about attempting to use language that doesn't upset people? I was always told that people should think before they speak. I agree that it can go a bit too far, but some political correctness isn't an awful thing.
Let me give an example.
I have no problem with stores that refer to it as the "holidays" and not just "Christmas." It's not just Christmas - there's 3 other holidays then, not counting New Years. Saying "Happy Holidays" just encompasses all of them. It's respectful.
However, it goes a little too far if someone sues a store for saying "Merry Christmas" to them. Unless they were handing out little Bible tracts and telling you to celebrate Christmas or die, they simply intended on wishing someone a happy time.
Hopefully, that makes sense...
