We have a newborn (DOB November3rd, 2006) and she seems to have nightmares. She has alot of REM, faster breathing and cries in her sleep (not from being hungry or wet). it seems to be a nightmare? but what can a 3 1/2 week old have nightmares of? Do you think I should be concerned? I have 2 other children and never had this happen before. Any comments appreciated!! TY

My baby would cry and whimper in his sleep the first 3 months. All the advice I can give you is: don't wake her up! She's sound asleep. Being overtired made it worse in my experience.

He also went through a phase at about 6 months where he would scream at the top of his lungs, once, and not be awake. Just to warn you.

Your baby girl might whimpering in her sleep because she is be physically uncomfortable (maybe due to a tummy ache, too hot/too cool, etc.) or else even while sleeping wants mama. My baby fusses in her sleep and I speak to her in a low quiet voice saying something comforting like, "I love you, oh I love you, it's okay" while patting her gently. Try this and likely she'll be soothed by your voice.
