A corset has lots of boning in it, but it was originally designed as a functional article of clothing, nothing sexy about it and it was not built to cinch the waist, but rather to support the bust. A modern corset however has come to be associated with cinched waists, satin, and sexy little outfits. Still, it's main feature is the large amounts of boning.

A bustier is lightly boned, designed to smooth your lines, but is not as full coverage as a corset.

The Merry Widow has the garter straps attached.

My personal preference would change depending on what I needed one for. To get the correct look in a period costume, I chose the corset to feel most supported, to get smooth lines that won't show under a dress, I choose a bustier. I have no idea why anyone would choose a Merry Widow unless she was going to be taking it off very soon.

Corset And Bustier

I can answer this!!!

Corset: Has heavy boning usually, laces up and is designed to cinch the waist tight. Sexy but functional.

Bustier: Same look as corset, generally, but more for looks/sex appeal than function.

Merry Widow: Like a lightweight corset or a bustier but with built-in garters for your hose.

Oh, and I prefer a corset...makes for a VERY nice silhouette and loads of cleavage.
