We should get rid of them. The reasons to get rid of them, i.e., the chance of the person who won the popular vote not winning the electoral vote, outweigh any reason to keep them.

I think we should keep the electoral college but change the way they are allocated. Why should one person get all of a states electoral college votes when they didn't get all the popular votes. Let's make it proportional?
Who knows it could cause the formation of a third or even fourth major party. That would really make things interesting. Imagine no one party having enough members to control either house of Congress. Talk about having to form a concensus on things?

By all means get rid of electoral way of choosing a president. I was i politics many years and found it harder and harder to convince young people to register and vote just because I could not explain how ultimately their one vote could make a difference.
Last election was really a good example as Gore got more of the people's votes but Bush won by electoral college.

If you believe the reason the Electoral College was established is out dated, I don't believe you understand the reason it was established. One of the reasons was to make sure smaller states had a say is Presidential Elections. In a pure popular vote system, the 10 largest states would elect the President and the rest of us would be ignored.
