First, LOVE the TMNT answer! :-)
Michelangelo is famous for more than the Sistine Chapel's ceiling. He was also a master sculptor, architect and poet. Probably his most famous sculpture is David. He also sculpted the tomb for at least one pope. Find a website that shows his works, or a large coffee table book. Better yet, take a trip to Italy and see his works for yourself!

I just answered a question on why Pablo Picasso was famous or worse yet the question what made him such a great artist. If you really want to know for yourself, why don't you study up on him, you will be more inspired and intrigued by what you find in art books or the internet, in his writings, his drawings, his science, his explorations, his inventions, than you will from the Yahoo site. If you really want to know, explore, investigate, research and you will be totally amazed by Michelangelo the Master Genuis.

He is famous for being one of the most eccentric geniuses of his time. He invented and created some of the most beautiful things today, like the Sistine Chapel that he painted the ceiling of. He was thought to be a lunatic, writing all of his diaries in some wierd language (he wrote everything backwards in cursive), but now he is thought to be another artist struggling to strive.

Because he painted the ceiling of the Sistine chapel... Do you have any idea how big that chapel is and how hard it would have been it the olden days to get to the ceiling?
