OK,

The results you'll find in a search engine will probably complicate things waaaaay too much;

A structural theory (such as functionalism) is pretty much what it sounds like; it focuses on the way that society is made up.

Structuralists analogize society as like a human body; it is made up of different parts (agencies and institutions such as education, the family, the government etc...) that all work together to make society work - without these parts, there would be social chaos according to structural theory.

(e.g. If we were to remove the institution of family, then we would not have the proper primary socialization that teaches us how to behave and interact properly, as a result there would be a breakdown in social solidarity as norms and values disintegrate and the social consensus necessary to prevent social chaos would be lost.)

I hope that this helps :)

If there is anything more specific that you are stuck on, do email me your question at 05osbenn@colchsfc.ac.uk and I will be happy to help you out with your sociological queries...

Firstly have you tried wikipedia? usually that gives the best concise answers. But structuaral theory deals with chemistry and explains the large variety of chemical componds in terms of atoms making up moloecues. From the structural formula of a molecule itself it is possible toderive all physical and spectroscope data and predict chemical reactivity.
