Such as in the movie Gossip, or for instance someone hearing there spouse was having an affair and going crazy over it etc..

Gossip is bad by definition! Gossip is, in most cases, equivalent to Slander, and slander have, has and will, hurt many people.

Gossip hurts because it is always negative. There is no such thing as positive gossip----in reality no one wants to talk about another person in a positive way. That's considered boring conversation. From a worldly standpoint, in order for a conversation to be interesting someone hast to get cut off at the knees.
