My choice would be Australia.

France, they have a society that provides social services if you need them such as medical and child care, good vacations, and they are doing their best to keep the western corporations from taking over control of their country. Also they are cheaper than England as well. If climate alone was the deciding factor then equatorial countries or northern Australia would be my pick. One thing you will find though is that most countries have strict rules about immigration and for instance you don't move to Australia just for the hell of it. You have to either have one of a handful of job skills that they claim to be in shortage of, or about 300,000 dollars per person to bring with you to insure that you won't be taking advantage of their welfare system unduly. Unlike the U.S. most other major countries don't want folks simply showing up and bleeding them dry of services. Somebody has to pay for the great services that they provide and they want to make sure that for as long as you can that you can provide your share as well. You can check out Australian immigration on the web in the search engines to see what I mean. Had it not been for such as that I suspect that I would have gone there a long time ago. France has very similar situation as do most other countries. Those immigrants we are always hearing about in other countries are usually granted some sort of political asylum as they are coming from some sort of repressed regime or very impoverished country and are allowed on humanitarian reasons. We have no excuse on that, but are certainly on the way to the 'repressed" part. :-) hahaha Regardless other countries know that we are usually skilled workers and they don't want us taking jobs away from their own, or sucking up their social programs either. In short, be prepared to show you are needed, or that you can support yourself from the time you get there. www.escapeartist.com is one great site to find out all the facts and particulars on such stuff if you are interested. They can give you most of the facts and links to any country you choose.

The BIs (the Bahamas).

I've been down there so many times on dive trips, birding trips and the like.

It's a gorgeous place, especially once you get into the Out Islands.

If money were no object, I'd buy one of the larger private islands for sale in the Out Islands, build a house & a hostel, start a dive operation & maybe a fishing charter service, & enjoy life.

I'd never leave the USA though. Our problems here are miniscule for the most part compaired with the rest of the world.

Actually, if money were no object, I'd probably have a home here AND there. ;)

Australia would be in the running - but the long flight to visit relatives would be a deterrent.

Ireland would be choice one - great people, strong economy.

My choices would be The Netherlands, Denmark, or Norway (rated as the best country to live in) because they have very generous vacation laws, are highly tolerant of immigrants, and the best social welfare of anywhere in the world. Also, everyone (almost) speaks English well.
