It depends on what you're researching. If you're looking for medical info, www.webmd.com would be a better choice. If you're looking for music, try music.yahoo.com. Etc, etc, etc...

There really isn't a good answer to this because it all depends on the subject you're trying to reserch, but you should always use credible sorces. Actually Wikipedia is a bad place to do reserch for projects because wikipedia is all user-submitted information and nobody officailly checks it for accuracy. Most times the information is plagurized.
When looking for research online try going to a library, school libraries are best for this, but now many public libraries are getting database programs. These programs allow you to search newspapers, magazines, historical documents, scientific documents, and articals of that sort. Two common database programs are Ebscohost and Proquest. These programs cost a bit, but I've never been to a library where they charged you to use it, but unless you buy access, you can't usually use them from home. So go to a library and ask a librarian because some requre login information.
If you're not gonna use a database try to make sure if you're gonna use a website it's a credible source. Sites who's URL's end in .gov and .edu are usually better than .com and .net. Many college teachers put their reserch and paper's that they've written online. Obviously citing information from a history proffessor at Penn State is more credible than citing Jim's Xanga or myspace. The Discovery and History channel usually have good information on their websites, and CIA world fact book is a great site for information on places, but again because you're question isn't very specific about what you're looking for, it's impossible to give you a list.
