Considering that many school districts are trying to cut out art programs, and most artists are starving or doing something for their craft, I am thinking we don't take art seriously enough.

While I agree that art is subjective, I have to say that it is very annoying to see abstract paint splotches in art galleries as well as in stores selling for millions of dollars. Those pieces are BS and it's a shame that people are too pretentious to admit that. But then there are those brilliant and beautiful pieces that are worthy of the highest artistic praise. Picasso's "bizarre" cubism and Monet's blotchy paintings are in the high category and I believe rightly so. But some of that stuff... ugh!

ABSOLUTELY. Way too seriously. Especially the overly pretentious, politically correct, uber-liberal types who try to find some deeper meaning in, oh, let's say, a picture of an image of Jesus shot through a glass of the photographer's own urine, or perhaps a "deeply moving and important" abstract picture painted by an elephant holding a brush in his trunk. Gimme a freaking break.

We take peices that don't need to be taken serioulsy, way too far,
But then the really good peices of art, the ones that have deep insightfull meaning, and make them into a joke.

Yes, a good example would be those annoying ones where they just throw paint on canvas.
