Jeff A, take off your pointed hood and open your eyes.
Let's look at it from a bigger picture and ask ourselves a couple of questions.
What percentage of the Global population living under the poverty line is black, asian, colored?
No matter how you look at it, there is a corelation between the color of skin and prevalence of poverty.
Now, slavery and colonialism have various debilitating effects. These effects take a lot of time to heal. Every civilization in the past has at one time or the other had slaves from other conquered cultures e.g Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Nevetheless, in none of these cases has the proportion of slaves to citizens come close to the prevalence of the United States. At the height of slavery in the US, there was 1 african slave for every 4 citizen.
In the case of previous civilizations, the negative effects of slavery have been greatly healed by the passage of time. It has been barely a century since slavery was abolished in the US, and just a copule of decades since civil right reforms were implemented in the south. It is over optimistic, to the point of naivette, to assume that societal and racial relations in the US would be normalized after only a copule of decades.
This brings to mind a skit in an episode of "Family Guy" where a colonial white man removes the shackles from his african slave and says "Okay, its over now. We're cool, right?".
It is understandable that minorities unconsciously feel slighted about the past and wish to strike back. In roman history, an army of escaped and former slaves led the Thracean Spartacus led a bloody revolt against the Roman populace.
In modern US society, It is sometimes taken as a subconscious mental victory that it is politically incorrect for a white person to say "Ni99er" while black people can refer to each other that way. These irrelevant mental victories help to heal racial problems in the society.
Being born and raised for the first 20 years of my life in a West African country, I have the advantage of being able to look at the US society from an outsiders perspective.
For anyone who says that the current US society is racially fair, I ask them to research the average family income for a black, hispanic, asian then caucasian family. Numbers dont lie, but ultimately, time heals all wounds (hopefully).

This topic always aggravates me because I don't think it will ever be resolved. I personally think slandering any race is wrong. Asian, Black, Hispanic, Latin, White, etc.
However, I don't understand why blacks feel its ok to use slander just because their ancestors were enslaved 100s of years ago. Yes 100s of years for slavery in America started in the 1600s. Saying "your ancestors did it so we can ask for reparations, special scholarships, etc." doesn't seem acceptable. "Your ancestors enslaved mine so I can say what I want" doesn't seem acceptable either. My ancestors weren't here during slavery, but no one takes that into consideration when calling names. Why should they? My skin is white and that is all that needs to be understood.
I have a sense of humor and don't have a problem listening to comedians like Chris Rock, Cedric the Entertainer, Bernie Mac, etc. They happen to be some of my favorite comedians. Despite what I have read on previous posts on other boards with similar questions, they use the words to make people laugh, not just black people but white people too. They don't just heckle the white audience members, they do it to the black audience members too. It isn't the same as saying "cracker" in anger.
So I am not singling out black people, I have heard latin comedians like Carlos Mencia, use racial slurs for both black and white. I have seen Asian comics say those kinds of words too. If it is used in a humorous way, it doesn't bother me. Although I do think it can be overdone, like Mencia. He definitely over dose it.
So to answer your question, I don't think either is acceptable. Whites shouldn't use racial slurs anymore than another race should. Sadly the odds of any race reducing their racial slur usage isn't very good.

Its the same old story.A white man gets up and goes to work, supports his family and provides what is needed to live a decent life.Pays his taxes and does what is required of him without complaining. While the white man is doing all these things he is also helping support many illegitimate black babies, sorry non-working adult blacks through his tax dollars. Most blacks that do work and provide for there families, pay taxes also help support this same sorry non-working bunch. The problem is when we say anything about the black race we are labeled racist. We have to keep quiet or choose our words very carefully when talking about blacks. When the blacks talk about the white people its OK for them to slander us in public with racial remarks and negitive attitude.Dont know how to fix the problem but its really easy to see the cause most of the time.

First of all no body should be calling anyone any names, if u can"t say something nice about the person at all, don"t say anything at all.
Black rappers say it all the time in there songs for they think it is right to do so when it isn't. Its a price tag for them to make money.
To them they think it's cool to sell something like that, when we are trying to teach the young ones not to talk profanity, of any kind ,let alone the n-word, it's unjustifiable. Everyone is a different race for reasons, just becase one is of another color, we shouldn't go around slandering them. but some of us do.
Slavery is another topic and would then run into religion.
But if someone where to call me that for no apparent reason, they would most defenitaly have a fight on there hands , for i'm a pretty tough cookie, and wouldn't tolerate that coming from anyone, seeing as i would not say that of them.
Also comics do it all the time but they use precausions on the other hand i like Sienfield, i watch it all the time, kramer sliped that night , and i think that he felt sorry for saying it, but he is also going to be remembered for that one slipup, and it'll take a lot on his side to make up for it, just because he said it isn't going to make me stop watching the show at all.

It is not acceptable either way. Making racial slurs against anyone is wrong. I even think it is wrong to label oneself as "(inset race/ethnic here) American". If you were born in America then you are American. If you immigrated and got citizenship in American then you are American. Race should not be a factor behind it all, otherwise everyone with their heritage would go around saying they are Irish American, Chinese American, Polish American, etc. The key word in all of this ethnic labeling is "American". If you want to be a Canadian, Scottish, Peruvian, Martinan, then seek citizenship in those countries.
There is no immediate solution to solving this racial inequality problem. Time and education will conquer this, the past has proven it is working.

I understand your question because i know what you are talking about. It's seems okay for our people to joke about other races and such and talk down about them but as soon as that race says something negative to or about our people, our people jump on that person. I am no way a racist and im not condoning any racist behavior and i think its wrong either way, but how can you expect others to respect you when you cannot give respect to your own people or others?

It is really not OK for anyone to slander anybody but when it all really comes down black people have a lot of bad things behind them. a few decades ago when white folks said ****** to a bad person they weren't calling them their friend it was meant to be bad and offensive. Black people didn't start calling white people name until they got the balls to later on. So now when white people call black people name they will get their a** beat because that's not cool at all. White folks ain't gon do nuthin even though they is crazy.

either way u look at it is wrong.. black people shouldnt get the chance to insult white people just because at one point they were slaves and treated badily, that is a poor excuse then and it doesnt make it right. that is like saying just because this group was wrong to this group it is ok to talk bad about them and get away with it.. i dont think so.. maybe those black people who insult the whites should just stop calling us that and talk about themselves for once. they wouldnt like it if whites called them the n word or anything else that was wrong

It is only acceptable to those that are racists.... in either direction it isn't cool.... it is just that some people have nothing better to do than to degrade others to make themselves feel better.... as for the answers i have read here, i am shocked and appalled!
