My parents made me wait until 18. I was taking an AP Biology class in High school, and it had a 0th period which started at 6:30 and my parents didn't want to get up to drive me to school for it.
It's expensive to insure a younger driver. If you are in the US I recommend getting a driver's license as soon as possible. Insurances have gotten smart to the people who start later in driving. It use to be that insurance rates went down when you hit 25, now the rule is usually after 7 years driving as an insured driver, so the longer you wait, the longer it will take before your insurance rates go down.

That depends on where you grew up. If you grew up in a big city like I did, it's normal for young adults to not get their license until their late teens/early twenties since they've grown up in areas of extensive and frequent public transportation networks. Such was the case for me who didn't get mine until I was 19 and in college in a rural area (plus it was the first step toward the commercial license I would get a year later). In fact, some people who live their entire lives in urban areas NEVER get their driver's license.
If you grew up in a suburban/rural area, well, I guess it's about time, I guess... time to make YOU the chauffer!
