I'm a liberal and I'll tell you what-- I arrainged to have 56 gift boxes of Hickory Farms products sent to active fighting units in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as a medical company in Iraq for Christmas.
I received a list of active duty members from my brother at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
56 gift boxes with messages from total strangers, wishing our soldiers a Merry Christmas.
Top that.

I'm a liberal. My husband has (so far) done two tours in Iraq with the 82nd. I don't support this war at all bacause I think Bush invaded under false pretenses. If we think back to the beginnig if the war, the reason given was WMDs, which we now know didn't exist and that there was no evidence that they did. However, Bush played on the fears of the American populace (remember, it was only a year and a half after 9/11) to justify the war. If you claim Bush is a war crin\minal, the culpability of the troops depends on why you claim he's a war criminal. Is it because he stated a war on false pretenses? Well, the troops and the American public didn't know when the war started that he was telling lies. Is it b/c of how POWs are being treated? Then, yes, the soldiers committing violations are war criminals, but they are the minority. Many troops serve honorably. Why would you punish all troops for the actions of a few? It's the same thing with atrocities such as Haditha and Abu Ghraib, which, at least have been brought to light, and those troops have stood or will stand trial for their crimes. Right now, the majority of US troops are attemtpting to maintain order in the midst of sectarian violence while training Iraqi troops to take over that task. Additionally, when you are in a kill or be killed situation, you are going to do what you have to to survive. My husband's company lost four guys the first tour, and the second tour they lost another guy, my husband was hit with an IED, his best friend was shot in the chest. They're not playing games, and the "politics" don't cross their minds..it's a matter of survival. They don't care why they're in that particular place; they care about leaving that place alive. Most of the guys I met joined for noble reasons; to serve their country, to help spread democracy and liberate the oppressed, to protect their countryman. Yes, there are the few crazies who just really want to blow things up, or kill some people, but the majoriity are honorable people. Many of these men will serve under 4-7 presidents, and the political environment will shift at least a bit, and sometimes drastically, with each one. What remains constant is the steadfast desire among most of the soldiers to do something right for their country and the world, and I'll support the troops for that reason, even if the POTUS is a tool with questionable integrity.

Well since my cousin is in the army and two people I used to work with are Marines that we have sent packages too. That makes 2 for care packages and 1 actually related too. Oh and my Dad is a Korean War Veteran I help him out all the time. By the way he totaly disagrees with this war as well. And he is a republican. Maybe I should tell him he doesn't support the troops and I will ask him how many care packages he has sent. Maybe I should tell my cousin don't worry there are plenty of Americans over here who support you and want you to stay in the middle of a civil war getting blown up by car bombs. Sorry cousin I don't support you I am a Liberal. Wake up Candycane you are no better than anyone and are acting like a jerk.

I am a proud liberal. I am also a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force. I don't mean to come off too strong but how dare you or anyone else, liberal or conservative infer that because of my political beliefs I am less likely to support our armed forces. It is high time the citizens of this country quit following those who spout senseless political rhetoric like a bunch of sheep.

I served my country proudly and honorably. I support those in uniform today just as proudly and just as honorably. I also serve those no longer in uniform. Trust me on one thing, you do not want to get a discussion going with knowledgeable people. If you insist on doing so you had best take a long hard look at the record this administration and the current congress have built concerning veterans affairs. At best it is shamefull.
