Obama can't win, he's black, and too many voters are somewhat racist.

I like him quite a lot, and think he's not only electable, but also just the sort of person who would make a great candidate.

I just finished reading his latest book, and he's very much a centrist. He speaks admirably about the consensus-building style of governance, and seems to model himself after Clinton and Bush 41, oddly enough.

In foreign policy, he has explicitly stated that while the U.S. should reserve the right to act unilaterally, it should be a right only used in the rarest instances, and that not only is it morally better to pursue international unity for an action, it is generally more effective. As such, he approves of the Afghanistan invasion, but not the Iraq one.

Domestically, his stated ideal is that the government exists for two primary purposes. First, it should make the free market more effective by developing things like infrastructure, promoting research, and verifying the legal integrity and transparency of our monetary systems. Secondly, he believes the government should provide a low-level safety net to take the rough edges off off the free market, as well as to give people the courage to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors.

Overall, I like him. He's certainly more moderate than me, but he and I agree that the main thing we need is a government that works, and perhaps his moderation is the best way to achieve that.

I do think Hillary can beat. Obama would not be a good President I don't think. I say this not because he is too young, there are very wise people that are young, but because Obama is not one of those wise people. His rallies are negative, and mostly meaningless. He is a great speaker-there is no doubt of that, but his content is bad. He sells himself to get votes. Candidates should be firm, which is one reason Kerry lost the election. Like Kerry, Obama focuses on the negatives of others instead of what he can offer. I also don't think granting amnesty to illegal aliens is a good idea either for economic and social reasons.

NO !!!!!
ditto to spiritwalker's answer above. I'd throw in Newt but I'm sure the libs would try to trash him big time and the news media would do everything they could to help.
Wouldn't it be cool if, after all the liberal postering of them being the party of African Americans and Women, that the Republicans run a ticket in 08 of Rice/Steele (or Steele/Rice)
This from a Christian Conservative "angry white male" from flyover country. hmmm, which party is really the party of racism and exclusion???

For those who say Obama is not seasoned enough to be president, then who is. Many of our presidents have had little political experience in the big arena. Maybe that is best. Less time to be corrupt. I am not a racist. I do not care who the president is as long as he/she puts the country first and not any one group. The President should likewise not be racist. If Obama fits that mold, then I will listen and give consideration. With Opra Winfrey supporting Obama, there will be no shortage of money and exposure. He is definitely someone to look out for.

I think Obama has great potential, but I also think he is not seasoned enough for the Oval Office. Yes, I think Hillary would get the nomination over Obama. I'm not averse to a Clinton/Obama ticket, now that would one interesting election.

With only two years of political experience? No.

He seems like a decent guy and a decent politician. But he doesn't strike me as extraordinary, nor does he have any track record for us to look at.

I will be voting for Giuliani in 2008. He has a strong track record of bringing about sweeping social change, lowering crime, and speaking his mind. I like him.

I would vote for him over the Witch! But if he's on the ticket with Hillary then I'll vote for McCain.
