I think it was to protect the books from general wear and tear. I was such a sad child I used to go down the cheap card shop and buy 6 sheets of wrapping paper for a £1 and then cover my books, I used to have teddy bears pictured paper, I thought it was so cool lol. Thankfully I grew up. I suppose even though it was a pointless exercise at least we have the thoughts in our memories of doing this, maybe that was the aim of doing this so that we never forget our school days lol

Wallpaper? We used to use paper grocery bags. But, I guess those aren't as prevalent nowadays. The purpose is just to protect the cover of the book...and to give you something to doodle on.

I haven`t seen that in years! The wallpaper lasted longer than the brown paper from the grocery store bags. It was mandatory to cover our books to keep them in good shape.

I particular do. I under no circumstances had to apply wallpaper, yet Used the massive brown paper bags you get at grocery shops. i ought to mark them up with peace indications or any ingredient, in simple terms to conceal up the very incontrovertible fact that they were bags! all the different little ones bought fancy e book covers.

SO the school dont have to fork out to buy new books they can just keep giving out the old battered ones and blame you for them getting damaged when you hand them in at the end of term. I also remember getting detention for not doing it, how crap is that!?!?!
