Without a doubt. Teenagers are far more sexually active now than ever before. The mystery is gone. They can see how its done. TV & movies make sex appealing (which it is but I, for one, would prefer that teenagers not know this) & a normal occurence without consequences. It teaches immorality.

When I was growing up married couples on TV didn't even sleep in the same bed! (which tells you that I'm very old, doesn't it?) So few girls became pregnant that when someone did it was the talk of the town. And very seldom did they keep the child. We were pretty naive back then & I think society was the better for it.

Absolutely! It is nothing for teens to talk about having sex and promiscuity where in past generations it was very hush hush. Now, as far as if teens in the past were less promiscuous than teens today is unclear, the openness about the subject is abundantly clear. Media is the most powerful institution among society. More so than churches, schools and family structures. It is also the most efficient form of teaching norms and values of a society turning out ideals faster than any other institution. Media also has the power to change the shape other institutions. So to answer your question, yes and this answer can be applied to many other social ills.

I would have to say no.
I'm doing a research paper, right now, about this same exact thing.

Honestly, I think that yes, it does have an effect on how soon teen's begin to have sex. But the way that they are raised and how they're morals are set, and the example parents make to their children when they are young.
I was raised with no T.V., but my mother, to put it nicely, was very sexually active. Her example was the only one that I had to go on, and I lost my virginity when I was 13.
I believe that Sex in the Media, has some effect, but it mostly has to do with the way that teen's are raised, the atmosphere they are brought up into and the example's they have to follow.

Sex does sell, but I don't believe that this influence's a teen's decision to have sex so much that they say "I think I want to have sex!" after watching a sexual commercial or T.V. show, or even in an ad in a magazine.

originally, the first answer that popped into my mind was "Yes!! Most definitely!!" but then the thought of how people are being raised today came into view.
when a young girl sees women masquerading around drunk, dangerously skinny, openly promiscuous with both sexes, & mommy/daddy dont say anything to deter her mind of thinking that thats what she wants to do/be when shes older... then thats exactly what she will do/be.
its not just magazines, movies, "reality" shows, & news that puts it in/out of her mind... parents should have a say-so as well.

My initial answer would be to say yes, but then I don't really know about how it was before the media became obsessed with it. I guess you should ask an older person what they think, as they grew up in a time when it was not really aired on television

there's an article regarding this....forget where i read it, though

they have concluded that teenagers that are exposed to sex and sexual promiscuity through media have a higher rate of sexual activity in the early teens than those that are not. increase of upto 60%, from what I read.

no it is the teens parents COMBINED with the media that make that atmosphere. it is an unavoidable human urge to go after that which he/she is not allowed to have. my parents are VERY loose on rules and therefore i am left completely responsible for myself. my parents don't discourage sexual activity and therefore i haven't done anything yet. it is how you are raised. parents say they need lots of rules to raise good children but they are wrong in so many ways. most of the bad people in the world come from overprotective parents and therefore bad friends and therefore they become bad people.

Most definitely. Especially with teens that have no anchor of understanding of good and correct moral behavior.
