The first answers are correct: Milky Way. It is also called the Galaxy, with a capital G to distinguish it from other galaxies. In such cases, the adjective Galactic is also written with a capital G.
The modern name of the Galaxy (early 20th century) comes from the name given two thousand years ago to the band of faint light that appears to cross a large section of the celestial sphere. It is the light of all the stars in the neighbouring spiral arms: individual stars are too faint to be seen by naked eye but the sum of their light is caught by our eyes. The word galaxy comes from the Greek "galaktos" meaning milk. The latin Lac (genitive form = lactis) comes from the Greek, giving us the name lactose for the form of sugar found in milk.
In many cultures since the Ancient Greeks, this band has been called the Milky Way (e.g., Europeans, Americans). In some other cultures, it is the "way of the hay" or the "circle of hay". For example, in keltic culture it is linked to the harvest season (hence the reference to hay). In some eastern cultures, it represents the hay spilling from a cart driven too fast by a hay thief (it is also called the way of the thief).
In northern cultures (e.g., norse, siberian) it is a snow road.
Before the Greeks gave us the Milky Way, a lot of cultures saw this band of light as a Silvery River.

Alexander Smoot.
If you are of equal status, our galaxy will let you say "Alex", but when in doubt, it's best to use the honorific,"Most Puissant Alexander".
You don't want to commit a faux pas and be labeled as gauche.
