Since it was decided previously on this site that it is unclear whether Russia is a European or an Asian country, because geographically it leans to Asia, whereas culturally and economically it's more European, here's a question for all of you:

Do you consider ethnic Russians a European people?

A reminder should be made that this group (ethnic Russians) does not include Tatars, Ukrainians, Armenians, Georgians, Belarusians, Chechens, Germans, Kazakhs, and other prominent ethnicities that may inhabit the Russian Federation.

All the people in the movie Eastern Promises that played Russians were non-Russians- check out Wikipedia " Eastern Promises" The actors were of British, German and Scandinavian descent. If the Russians were not (Eastern)European why did they not hire a bunch of Asian African or ME actors to play them? And of course they are good looking- they are actors. As far as Russians not being (E) Europeans, well, then follow a Russian down the streets of Tokyo, Beijing, Jakarta and Seoul. See how people respond to them. Most people will look at them and say - "Oh, an American, HI, GI Joe". And try and practice English with them ( which they do not as a rule speak)

They certainly consider themselves Europeans. They would go crazy if you tried to tell them they are from Asia.

THe Ural mountains are the dividing line with Europe and Asia. Everything east (which is the majority of Russia) is Asia. Ethnic Russians have a European mentality though.

Yes, they are Europeans. Especially after the fall of Soviet Union, where a lot of nations were Asian. They are Christians (Orthodox) and they love money, just like anybody else in the western world.

Of course they are European, they were just cut off from the rest of Europe by the Mongols for a couple of centuries.

No, Russians are definitely not Europeans. It is not enough to be blond to be European, you need to have European mentality. Russian mentality is very different from European mentality. Russians are not open-minded (racism, xenophobia and homophobia are much more wide-spread in Russia than in Europe.) Russian mentality is more like Chinese mentality, because it is based on conformism. Nevertheless, Russians want to consider themselves Europeans. Part of the reason for that is racism (they think that being Asian is somehow degrading or shameful). Of course, some individual Russians, especially those who have contacts with Western culture, can be European in their mentality, but definitely not the whole people.
