I had Gestational Diabetes with my youngest child. The one thing that I had that was unusual from my other 3 pregnancies was I kept losing weight instead of gaining. Diabetics do not always have symptoms so the blood test is only the first step to determine a risk for diabetes. If your blood test comes back with elevated blood sugar results that will be followed by a glucose tolerance test. If that test also indicates possible risk, then you will be sent for a 4 hour glucose tolerance test. I was overweight with my pregnancy and I ended up weighing 25 pounds less when my baby was full-term than I did before I got pregnant. Because women who have had Gestational Diabetes are at a greater risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes, I try to exercise, eat right, and keep my weight down.

Unfortunately, no. The standard questions for diabetes (excessive urination, excessive thirst, decreased hunger tolerance) are all pretty common in pregnancy. Your best bet would be to look at risk factors for gestational diabetes. Are you older than 45? Did you have a previous pregnancy that was lost unexpectedly? Or was born very large? Do you have a family history of diabetes mellitus? Are you overweight?
If you fall into these categories, you're more likely at risk, and that's about the best you can do without a blood test.
Good luck, and even if you do have gestational diabetes, you'll be fine, just remember to stay healthy and have regular check-ups!

I dont believe so. Even for regular diabetes testing they have to do blood work. Good luck and Congrats on the pregnancy.

For me it was being sooo thirsty after meals, and then being real, real tired after meals. If you do have it, no worries, a lot of times it can be controlled by diet.
