Absolutely send it back! The waitress should have asked if everything was ok. Even if she didn't, you should have asked for her to come over and (in a nice way) say that the meat was cooked incorrectly and to send it back. If it is a nice restaurant, the chef wouldn't get mad and spit in it. If all other aspects of restaurant appear respectable, chef would never consider doing that.

Only if it's way off the mark. I expect my MR steak to be pink with juices still coming out of it. Frequently it shows up M. I can usually deal with that.
At my restaurant, sure I'd curse when a steak was sent back because I undercooked them a bit for that exact same reason that was mentioned, but I didn't DO anything like spit on it.
Don't even get me started on people complaining that a filet was tough when they ordered it well, well, well done. Hello? You wanted a charcoal briquet!

Always send it back. It's important to get the waitresses attention right away. It's not that difficult to ruin a steak by cooking it to well done. Doesn't even need a chef to cook it. On the other hand, you can always take the steak home and cook it to death yourself.

Myself, it doesnt matter what I order, if it is not right I always send it back, I'm always nice about it, sometimes not the easiest thing to do, but with the price you pay for most meals, esp here in Canada, I dont feel it is out of line to bring it to the servers attention and also ask for the manager. After all if it were not for we the patrons they would not be in buis. Or you can opt to ask for management and let them see that it isnt to your likings and that you are not going to eat it, would like to settle the bill and go else where. Good luck to you in the future...

You have every reason in the world to return the steaks. They were not prepared properly. I do not care if the Best Chef in the world was preparing those steaks. You are paying good money for them. They should be prepared the way you ordered them. If they do not like the fact that you are returning them, I would say, "Perhaps I should go to another restaurant that knows how to prepare steaks properly!"

I say send the steak back. If you are dining at a nice restaurant, the manager will personally bring out your order and apology for the mistake. Be sure to be nice and courteous, and you should not have any problems. After all, the customer is always right. (smile)

A similar thing happened to me once. About 10 of us were dining, we all ordered steaks differently. I ordered mine medium but it was cooked well.
I sent it back and the manager brought the next plat to make sure, but it only happened I think because it was a nice restaurant. I would be concerned about sending my food back in just any restaurant.

I ask for the manager and then have them take it to the kitchen. I am VERY polite about it cause I dont want them to spit in it but at the same time Im not eating something that its the way I ordered it.

restaurants charge to much for their food and you should always get what you ordered. especially if it is a meat. meat that isn't fully cook can be dangerous and if you like it rare or medium that's fine but if you want in well done it should be well done as the paying customer you have the right to get what you ask for with in reason. as a lover of the well-done steak i know it can be cook right and you shouldn't have to pay for substandard food especially if it falls below the restaurants standards.
hope it helps

You should definitley have sent it back. You are paying for the meal and if it was not up to your satisfaction then the manager should try to do something to rectify the problem. I am a server myself and we have always been taught to go to the table no more than 2 min after delivering the food to do a 'quality check' to insure that the food is up to satisfaction and if not so that we are able to do something to compensate you for the problem. Trust me the server will do everything possible to help the situation to see that he/she is ensured a decent gratuity.
